It is more than fair to say that we are background people. At times, it honestly feels like we are ghosts within the music scene. We do not desire the spotlight.

And yet, here we are for a brief moment.

In having very little to say, there is somehow also far too much to speak about. It’s hard to know exactly where to begin, or how much context is necessary, but this moment deserves a few words.

We get asked occasionally what Spune means. The answer is usually short. We didn’t start this company, but we certainly made it our own. The fact of the matter is that Spune was supposed to be a stepping stone. A means to an end. Opening our own music venue was always the dream.

We’re deeply proud of what we have built over almost 16 years with Spune, but the truth is that we rarely prioritized what was easiest or most comfortable for us. When we first started on this path, it was made clear to us that without the ability to book the concerts ourselves, at a high level, our proposed venue would likely fail.

So we did the work first. Then more work. And then some more.

Maybe we aimed too high at times. Maybe we still do. But those aspirations always came from a good place. While the grind has flattened some of our idealism, basic goodness is still, somehow, our motivator.

So… back to where to begin.

Our names are Annette and Matthew. We own Spune Productions, an independent concert promoter that averages more than 500 ticketed shows a year. Over the last 15 years, we have helped open several local venues and worked hard to save a few others.

What we have not done, until now, is open our own.

Tireless effort is our calling card. Spune is very proudly blue-collar. This is a difficult industry, especially for small, independent operators. We don’t always have the budgets we wish we had, but we consistently outwork and outlast our doubters.

Before we talk about what AM/FM is, it feels important to say what it is not.

We don’t come from money. This is not an inheritance. Over countless 70-plus-hour workweeks, we have earned our seat at the table inch by inch. Nothing was given to us. Like many before us, we arrived here through persistence, sacrifice and a stubborn belief that the work mattered.

Our lineage and energy are effort.

After years of adversity, much of it driven by expectations that weren’t our own, AM/FM is the first opportunity we’ve somehow had to open a place that is fully, unmistakably Spune.

No major investors. No partners. Short of what we can realistically afford and the time it will take to make this what we want it to be, no compromises.

Plenty of challenges persist — more on that later — but this is a work in progress we are proud to bring to life.

Which brings us to timing…

On no planet would we have chosen these circumstances or this moment. And yet, the universe had other plans. Somehow, in the midst of chaos, a path opened for us to finally — and very soon — open our own music venue, diner and lounge.

AM/FM is a deeply personal project. It will be driven by kindness, affordability and the belief that community spaces still matter.

Like most things worth doing, this project is imperfect. There are rough edges. There always will be. But we are incredibly optimistic about what AM/FM can become for North Texas.

For a long time, we waited for perfect conditions. This isn’t that. But it is something we could figure out.

Independent concert promoters are nothing if not resourceful. AM/FM exists because we found a crack in the status quo big enough to step through.

Looking back on the dozens of shows we produced at Ferris over the past two years, there were certainly successes and more than a few failures. What became clear over time was that when the stars aligned, there was potential for magic. Something different for Dallas.

The vision will take time to fully realize, but we are excited for you to experience it alongside us. What happens next is something we’ll get to build together.

AM/FM won’t be the perfect venue for everyone, but to those who understand what we are trying to accomplish — or those who are willing to give us a few chances — we hope it resonates deeply.

On day one, day one hundred or even one year from now, we will likely still be in progress. Becoming fully ourselves is part of the work.

What we’re chasing is rhythm.

We’re incredibly proud of the people helping bring this to life and those we’ve crossed paths with along the way.

To Alan, Blake, Charlie, Conor, Eusebio, Gabe, Jenna, Kylah, Mikey, Olympia and Wade: Thank you for all your efforts. We hope AM/FM will make you proud.

When we open the doors, we are doing this as Annette, Matthew and Spune. This is our DNA as AM/FM.
